DONAUWERTH, or DONAUWORTH, a town of Bavaria, in the circle of Suabia, on the Danube, which is here crossed by a bridge and receives the Wernitz; 25 miles N. of Augsburg. Pop. 2700, principally employed in the raising of flax, hemp, and hops, and in trading by means of the Danube. The town is well built and surrounded by walls. It was formerly a free town of the empire, but since 1607 it has been in the possession of Bavaria. In the vicinity Marlborough gained a signal victory over the Bavarians in 1704.
