DUKINFIELD, a township of Cheshire, on the left bank of the Tame, which separates it from Ashton-under-Lyne, of which it may be considered a suburb. Pop. (1851) 12,132; chiefly engaged in the cotton manufacture, iron-works, and collieries, which are extensive.
