DICTYNNIA, in Antiquity, a festival with sacrifices celebrated at Cydonia in Crete and also at Sparta, in honour of Diana, surnamed Dictynna; or, according to others, in honour of a nymph taken for her, who, having plunged into the sea to escape the passion of Minos, was caught in a fisherman's net (ὁκτύων); whence the name.
