PRIAM of Arta, and 58 S.S.W. of Yanina. It has all the appearance of an oriental town, with its fantastically-carved mosque having a tall slender minaret. The streets are narrow and crooked, and the houses built chiefly of wood. There is a harbour, where some trade is carried on. Timber, tobacco, oil, wool, cotton, &c., are exported; and coffee, sugar, hardware, &c., are imported. Prevesa belonged to the Venetians from 1684 until the fall of that republic in 1797. It was then held by the French for a time, but was afterwards taken by the Turks. About 3 miles from the town are the ruins of the ancient Nicopolis. Pop. about 4000.
