CHARITON, of Aphrodisias in Caria, a Greek writer, who probably lived about the fifth century of the Christian era. He was the author of the Loves of Chareas and Callirrhoe, a romance of small invention, which has been translated into German and French. The best edition is that by D'Orville, reprinted by Beck, Lips. 1783.
