CHRYSES, the priest of Apollo, and father of Chryseis. When Lyrmessus was taken, and the spoil divided among the conquerors, Chryseis fell to the share of Agamemnon. Chryses went to the Grecian camp to solicit his daughter's restoration; and when his prayers proved fruitless, he implored the aid of Apollo, who visited the Greeks with a plague, and obliged them to restore Chryseis.
