CASTALIUS FOXS, or Castalia, a celebrated fountain at the foot of Mount Parnassus, sacred to Apollo and the Muses, who were thence called Castalides. According to some, it was named after the nymph Castalia, who threw herself into the fountain when pursued by Apollo. Its murmurs were deemed prophetic.
