CRUZADO, a gold coin of Portugal, struck under Alfonso V., about the year 1457, when Pope Calixtus III. sent thither the bull for a crusade against the infidels. This coin received its name from the cross impressed upon it. There are current Portuguese coins of this name. See MONEY.
