CUMMIN SEEDS, the fruit or seeds of Cuminum cyminum, an umbelliferous plant found wild in Egypt and Greece, and still extensively cultivated in the East, as in the remotest times, for the sake of its aromatic seeds. These have a strong and rather peculiar odour, with a corresponding aromatic taste; and like anise, dill, &c., possess well-marked stimulant and carminative properties.
