CYNÆGIRUS, an Athenian soldier who distinguished himself at the battle of Marathon. He was the son of Euphorion, and brother of the poet Æschylus. In pursuing the Persians to their ships, he is said to have seized one of their vessels with his right hand, and when it was severed, with his left, and when this too was lost he still maintained his hold with his teeth.
