DAVIES, SIR JOHN (1570-1626), a celebrated poet and lawyer of the age of Queen Elizabeth, was a native of Tisbury in Wiltshire. He is chiefly known now by his didactic poem, entitled Nose Teipsum. After holding a number of minor legal appointments, and sitting in the Irish parliament, Davies died suddenly of apoplexy immediately after he had been chosen Lord Chief Justice of England.
