DEIPNOSOPHISTS (δεῖπνος, a feast, σοφιστής, a sophist), an ancient sect of philosophers, famous for their learned conversation at meals. Athenæus has left a collection of Ana, which bears the title of Deipnosophista. See ATHENÆUS.
