DELAGOA BAY, an inlet on the S.E. coast of Africa, lying between 25. and 27. S. Lat. It is about 60 miles in length from north to south, and 20 in breadth; and contains several islands. It is frequented by South Sea whalers. The Portuguese, who have a small fort on the coast, carry on some trade in ivory, gums, gold dust, and slaves.
