DEONELLA, or DEONULLY, a town and fort of Hindustan, in Southern India, belonging to the rajah of Mysore. The place is unimportant, except from its association with historical recollections. It appears to have been the birth-place of Hyder Ali, and it was here that he made his first essay in arms. Here also, in 1758, was born his son, Tippoo Saib. It was taken by Lord Cornwallis in 1791. It is 19 miles N.N.E. of Bangalore. E. Long. 77. 46.; N. Lat. 13. 15.
