COMMONALTY, the lower of the two divisions of the civil state. See CIVIL STATE. The commonalty, like the nobility, are divided into several degrees; but although some commoners are greatly superior to others, all in law are commonalty in respect of their want of nobility. These several degrees are noticed under their respective heads.
