COMPOSTELLA, an inland town of Mexico, state of Xalisco, 100 miles W. of Guadalajara. Tobacco was formerly cultivated in the adjacent country, but was soon found to be quite unprofitable. The soil is barren, but there are several silver mines in the neighbourhood.
