CORNAGE, an ancient tenure of lands, which obliged the tenant to give notice of invasion by blowing a horn. This tenure was very frequent in the northern counties of England, near the Pictish wall; but by the statute 12th Car. II. all tenures are converted into free and common soccage. An old rental calls cornage neet-geldt, or neat-geldt. Lord Coke says that in old books it is called horngeld.
