COYPEL, NOEL, (1628-1707), a French painter, who was appointed by Colbert director of the French academy at Rome. His son Anthony (1661-1722) was employed in painting the gallery of the royal palace at Paris, and was afterwards made first painter to the French king, and ennobled on account of his merit.
