FUTTOCKS, in a ship, the timbers raised over the keel, or the encompassing timbers which form her breadth and capacity. Futtock plates are iron plates crossing the sides of the top-rim perpendicularly. The dead eyes of the top-mast rigging are fitted to their upper ends, and the futtock shrouds to their lower ends.—(Dana's Seaman's Manual.)
