GADAMES, or GHADAMES, an oasis S.W. of Tripoli, in the Sahara of Africa. It stands S. of the main chain of the Atlas Mountains, with a town near it, in Lat. 30. 10., Long. 90. 19. E. This important oasis contains numerous villages and a few antiquities of the Roman period, while it forms the centre of divergent routes to Tunis, Tripoli, the Oases of Ghraat, Twat, Gharglah, &c.
