AJAN, a maritime country of Africa on its eastern coast, extending from Cape Guardafui to Zanguebar, between Lat. 4^{\circ} to 11^{\circ} N. It abounds with all the necessaries of life, and produces a very good breed of horses. The whole sea-coast, from Zanguebar to the strait of Babelmandeb, is called the coast of Ajan; and a considerable part of it is styled the Desert coast.
