ALCAZAR DE SAN JUAN, a Spanish town in a district of the same name, in the province of Ciudad Real, and diocese of Toledo. It contains 7640 inhabitants. It has manufactures of soap, saltpetre, and gunpowder. This is the Alee of the Romans, taken by T. Sempronius Gracchus after a victory over the Celtiberians, B.C. 180.—Livy, xl. 48, 49.
