AMARYLLIDÆ, a natural order of plants with monopetalous flowers, and bulbous roots, several of which are deadly poisons, as the Hemanthus toxicanus used by the Bojesmans of the Cape, to poison their arrows. Many of them contain wholesome fecula when the acrid juice is separated from it.
