AMBERST, a small town in the county of Hampshire, Massachusetts, U. S., North America, 90 miles west of Boston. It is chiefly noted for its literary institutions, which consist of a college, an academy, and a classical institution. Its college was opened in 1821, and in 1850 had 166 students. Population about 2500. This is the name of several other places in the United States.
