NERTSHINSK, a town of Siberia, in the Transbaikalian territory, at the confluence of the Nersha and the Shika, 540 miles E. by S. of Irkutsk, and about 400 E.N.E. of Kiachta. It is wretchedly built of wood, and consists of an old and a new town, at some distance from each other. There are several churches; and some trade is carried on in furs. The district of Nerzhinsk is rich in mines of gold, silver, and lead, in which a great number of men are employed. It also affords good pasturage. Pop. of the town (1851) 4993.
