FETHARD, a town of Ireland, county of Tipperary,
8 miles N. of Clonmel. Though now decayed, it was once a place of considerable importance, and most of the original walls and gateways are still preserved. It was built in the reign of king John, and previous to the Union sent two members to parliament. Pop. (1851) 2767.
