GUELTERS, or GELTERS, a town of Rhenish Prussia, government of Düsseldorf, on the Niers, 26 miles N.W. of Düsseldorf. Pop. 3974. It was the capital of the old duchy of Guelders, which subsequently formed part of the duchy
of Burgundy; and by the peace of Utrecht one part was ceded to the republic of the Netherlands and the other to Prussia.
