HEALFANG, or HALFANG (Sax. halp, neck, pangen, to contain), in our ancient customs, the punishment of the pillory. Also a pecuniary mulct in commutation of the punishment of the pillory, to be paid either to the king or the chief lord. Qui falsum testimonium dedit, reddat regi vel terra domino healfang.
