STADIUM, the chief Greek measure for itinerary distances, which was adopted by the Romans chiefly for nautical and astronomical measurements. It consisted of 600 Greek feet, or 625 Roman feet, or of 606\frac{1}{2} English feet. (See WEIGHTS AND MEASURES.)
