STARODUB, a town of European Russia, on the Babinza, in the government and 100 miles N.E. of Tchernigov. It is surrounded by earthen ramparts, and contains a cathedral, a monastery, an extensive copper-work, a bell-foundry, and tanneries; and it has a considerable trade with the Baltic and Black Sea. Pop. 9500.
