MONTALEGRE, a town of Brazil, in the province of Para, is situated on an island in the Amazon, near the mouth of the Gurapatuba, 150 miles E.N.E. of Para. It has a church, a saw-mill, and a considerable trade in mandioca, cotton, cocoa, coffee, &c. Pop. 4000.
