MORETON-HAMPSHIRE, a town of England, Devonshire, situated on a hill on the borders of Dartmoor Forest, 11 miles W.S.W. of Exeter. It has an ancient parish church, with a lofty tower; also Independent, Baptist, Methodist, and Unitarian places of worship; and several schools. Leather and ropes are manufactured here, and granite is quarried in the neighbourhood. There are near the town some Druidical remains, and the ruins of two castles. Pop. of the parish (1851), 1858.
