ARDELI, JAMES MAC, one of the ablest of mezzotinto engravers, is supposed to have been born in Ireland about 1711. His chief works are portraits of distinguished persons after Hogarth, Hudson, Reynolds, and others; and a few historical subjects after Vandyk, Murillo, and Rembrandt. He resided at London, and died there in 1765.
