ASSIDUI, or LOCUPLETES, i.e., tribute-payers, Roman citizens of the upper and wealthier classes, so designated by Servius Tullius, in contradistinction to the Proletarii, or those who benefit the state only by their progeny (proles). Cicero says, "locupletes assiduos appellasset ab are dando."—Repub. ii. 22.
