BERGAMO (the ancient Pergamus), a city of Anatolia, on the river Mendere-Chai (ancient Simois), in Lat. 39. 4. N. Long. 27. 12. E. It is still a place of some importance, with a mixed population, estimated at 14,000. The houses are mostly small and mean, but it still preserves many remains of its former magnificence.
