Lecythideæ. The lofty tree that produces the Brazil or Para nut is a Bertholletia. The kernels are contained in a spherical shell or case as large as a man's head, with four cells, in each of which are six or eight kernels. See Planta Aipinoxiales of Humboldt and Bonpland.
