BIDPAI, or PILPAY, the Hindu author of the celebrated fables called in India Pancha Tantra, or "the five sections," which has been translated into Tamil, French, Latin, Spanish, and part into English, by Sir Charles Williams and by Sir William Jones. A good account of this work is given in vol. i. of the Royal Asiatic Society's Transactions, by H. H. Wilson, from which it appears that scarcely any book but the Bible has been translated into so many languages.
