BLUBBER, the fat of whales and other large sea-animals, from which train-oil is extracted. It is properly the adeps of the animal, and lies immediately under the skin. In the whale its thickness is ordinarily six inches, but about the under lip it is found two or three feet thick. The quantity yielded by one of these animals usually amounts to from 20 to 30 tons of blubber, yielding from 15 to 22 tons of oil.
