BOGOMILI, or BOGARMITE, in Ecclesiastical History, a sect of heretics which sprung up about the year 1179. Their founder was one Basil, a monk, who was burnt alive at Constantinople by the Emperor Alexius Comnenus. Their system was nearly allied to that of the ancient Gnostics and Manichæans.
