BAILMENT, from the French bailler, to deliver, means, in law, a delivery of goods in trust upon a contract, expressed or implied, that the trust shall be faithfully executed on the part of the bailee or person to whom they are delivered, and the goods re-delivered as soon as the time or use for which they were bailed shall have elapsed or been performed. There is a valuable Essay on the Law of Bailment by Sir William Jones.
