BALECHOU, JEAN-JACQUES-NICOLAS, an eminent French engraver, born at Arles in 1715; died at Avignon in 1765. His works are distinguished by decision and vigour, but are sometimes hard in the details. His chief-d'œuvre is the portrait of the king of Poland.
