BARON, or BOYRON, Michel, a celebrated French actor, born at Paris in 1653; died in 1729. He was first brought on the stage by Moliere, and during his lifetime was said to be "du théâtre Français l'honneur et la merveille." He was equally successful in tragedy and comedy, and likewise composed some comedies. His self-esteem seems to have been equal to his success: "every hundred years," he said, "a Caesar may be seen, but it needs ten thousand to produce a Baron."
