JELETZ, a manufacturing town of Russia, in the government of Orel or Orlov, situate on the left bank of the River Sosna, 256 miles S.S.E. of Moscow, and about 100 miles from the town of Orel. Its trade has increased very much of late, and the manufacture of iron, which abounds in the neighbourhood, is gaining importance. Grain and cattle are staple articles, while iron, leather, and soap form the principal manufactures. Pop. (1851) 24,340.
