JESI (the ancient Asinum), a walled city of the Papal States, on the left bank of the Asina, delegation of Ancona, 16 miles W.S.W. of the town of that name. It is the see of a bishop, and has a cathedral, five churches, and twelve convents. Pop. about 6000, chiefly engaged in the manufacture of silk and worsted stockings.
