HYDE, a manufacturing town of England, county of Chester, 7½ miles E.S.E. of Manchester. The town owes its importance to the cotton manufacture, which affords employment to nearly the whole population. There are extensive coal mines in the vicinity. Pop. (1851) 10,051.
