PARAHIBA, a river of Brazil, rises in the Borboréma Mountains, on the confines of Pernambuco and Parahiba, flows N.E. and E. through the latter province, and falls into the Atlantic by two mouths. It is 3 miles broad at its estuary (which is defended by two forts), and has an entire length of nearly 300 miles.
