ORTONA, a town of Naples, province of Abruzzo-Citra, on the shore of the Adriatic, 11 miles E. of Chieti. It contains a cathedral and several other churches; and gives its title to a bishop. There is a small harbour, by means of which an active trade is carried on in the wine grown in the vicinity, said to be the best in this part of Italy. Ortona occupies the site of the ancient town of the same name, which was the principal maritime town of the Frentani. Some ancient remains have been found here. Pop. 6000.
