PERUWELZ, a town of Belgium, province of Hainaut, on an affluent of the Schelde, 12 miles E. by S. of Tournay, and 16 W. by N. of Mons. It is for the most part well built, and has a public square, a church, and several schools. The inhabitants are chiefly employed in weaving, bleaching, dyeing, tanning, and brewing. Pop. 7612.
