YSTAD, a seaport town of Sweden, in the län and 34 miles E.S.E. of Malmö, on the Baltic, near the S. extremity of the kingdom. It is a well built town, with a good market-place, two churches, a town-hall, and barracks. Woollen and linen cloth, leather, soap, tobacco, and snuff, are made here, and an active trade is carried on. The harbour is good, and most of the steamers plying between Stockholm, Lübeck, Kalmar, Stettin, Stralsund, and Copenhagen, touch here. Pop. 5056.
