THORDA, or THORENBURG, a market-town of the Austrian empire, capital of a county of the same name, in Transylvania, on the Aranyos, 17 miles S.E. of Klausenburg. It is meanly built, and contains Protestant, Roman Catholic, and Greek churches; a monastery, town-hall, gymnasium, and military school. In the vicinity are salt-mines, and the remains of the Roman fortress Salinae. Pop. 8112.
